This is a really interesting article. Thanks Sandy. I'm really excited about seeing London Road to see if it is something that would be able to take musical theatre in a new direction (even if they're too scared to admit it is a musical). I was saying somewhere on someone's blog or SIG (can't remember who) that I think the smaller venues like the donmar and the chocolate factory and he national (technically not small but not commercial either) are probably the venues that will save musical theatre. I think because they produce shows that they never intend to run for long periods of time they are more able to take risks. If they produce a flop it was only meant to run for three months anyway so it is no great financial loss.
